Central Para Military


Paramilitary organisations are protective services which have been constituted to maintain internal security and to support the Defence Services in guarding our national borders. These services are Central Government services which have a demarcated role of action. Women can also enter paramilitary services. The organisations serving under this category discussed here are – the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force (BSF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), State Police Forces and Homeguards. On selection and after training, a person is given the rank of Assistant Commandant. After about 20 years service he may reach the rank of DIG or IG in the respective cadre.

What is Central Police Forces(CPF) Exam

CPF(AC) Exam is conducted in the month of October by UPSC for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in five Central Police Forces namely BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Paramilitary Force), CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), ITBP (Indo Tibetian Border Police) and SSB (Seema Suraksha Bal) The approximate number of vacancies are:- CRPF – 213
BSF – 111
SSB – 122
CISF – 15
ITBP – 36

Selection Process

It is a two stage process ie a written exam followed by Interview. The biggest hurdle is clearing the written exam.
